The nü-metal pioneers will share the main stage on Ozzfest 2003 along with festival veterans Marilyn Manson and Disturbed, according to organizers. Ozzy Osbourne will customarily close the show, backed by the band with which he recorded 2001's Down to Earth: guitarist Zakk Wylde, bassist Robert Trujillo and drummer Michael Bordin. Returning to the roving metal circus from last year's spot on the second stage, Chevelle, who've earned their place with the big boys thanks to a solid fanbase that expanded exponentially with the radio explosion of "The Red" (see "Chevelle Rev High With New Single, Tour"), will break the ice on the main stage each evening at 5 p.m. Filling out the roster on this year's second stage, Ozzfest's equivalent to baseball's minor leagues, will be Cradle of Filth, making their first appearance at a U.S. rock festival, along with Trust Company, Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage, Finger Eleven, Nothingface, Hotwire, Grade 8, Twisted Method, Unloco and Memento. Additional bands are expected to be announced later. An itinerary is also forthcoming. Previous Ozzfests have traditionally begun in June. In its eighth year, Ozzfest promises 14 hours of music on multiple stages. And in 2003, organizers are giving fans even more: a break. An undisclosed number of lawn seats will be made available at venue box offices and select other locations for $10, a considerable discount compared to what can sometimes amount to a $75 ticket. Check venue Web sites for more information. All tickets are expected to go on sale next month. As has also been the case in years past, the vendor-riddled Village of the Damned will return, filled with makeshift parlors so fans can get inked, pierced and painted in between sessions of shopping for that perfect tour shirt. more... Lovable madman Ozzy proved that his talents are not limited to heavy metal and reality TV when his music helped bring the hospital patient back from the brink of death. Doctors feared that father-of-three Robert Jacques would never recover after a motorcycle crash left him in a coma. His mother felt sure that his passion for Ozzy's music could save him, however, and so insisted on playing the rocker's albums around the clock. The power of the "prince of darkness" seems to have worked its magic, as Robert eventually recovered consciousness, to the sound of Black Sabbath's Crazy Train. "It was recognizing his voice that did the trick," said the 35-year-old afterwards. And to show his gratitude Robert, who had been in a coma for three months until Ozzy was drafted in to save the day, has decided to change his name to match his hero's. "If it wasn't for him who knows what would have happened," he said. "I'll always be grateful to Ozzy and my mum. I'm not sure it was her favourite music, but she made a sacrifice for me." by hello! 02-13-2003 Ozzy and Sharon named most romantic celebrity couple Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne are the world's most romantic celebrity couple, according to a Valentine's survey. By orange (UK) 02-13-2003 Kelly Osbourne pulls out of awards over terror fears Kelly Osbourne has pulled out of tonight's NME awards, because she is scared of a terrorist attack on Britain. The 18-year-old was due to perform at the event, and is down to present an award at next week's Brits. But she decided not to fly to the UK after her father Ozzy and mother Sharon told her they feared for her safety. Her spokeswoman said: "Kelly's parents were in New York on September 11 when the twin towers came down, so you can imagine how they feel. "The decision wasn't taken lightly, and Kelly has thought long and hard about it. She is upset that she can't come to Britain, because she was really looking forward to it. "But, as well as herself and her parents, she also has a whole crew and band to think of and she has decided not to take the risk." more... By orange / nme (UK) 02-10-2003 On top of his game That Super Bowl ad with Ozzy Osbourne was a blast, says Donny Osmond. But don't look for the unlikely duo to tour anytime soon. Osmond and his sister Marie dressed up in their old disco jumpsuits and serenaded a startled Ozzy in his kitchen in the clever Pepsi spots. "(Ozzy) took one look at our outfits and said, 'That is so gay,'" Osmond told me earlier this week on the phone. He said he turned to the shell-shocked rocker and said, "Yeah, but you don't have to wear them." Goofing on his squeaky-clean image is fine with Osmond, 45. His day job, as host of the syndicated game show Pyramid, has been locked up for another year. His new album, Somewhere In Time, just went platinum in England. On April 3, he returns to headline at Casino Rama, a venue he quickly sold out last year. "You gotta do Puppy Love. You gotta do the oldies," he says. There will also be songs from Joseph And His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the Broadway musical he performed for six years, starting with the hit Toronto road show. "I took my career to the next level in Toronto with Joseph at the Elgin Theatre," he says. "There's a seat there in the audience with my name on it." If his career isn't quite as red hot as Ozzy's, so what? Osmond, a father of five boys, isn't about to welcome reality camera crews into his home. "I don't think I'd ever do anything like that," he says. "It's such an invasion of privacy. Ozzy even turned to me and said, 'I want to get this over with and get people out of my house so I can live a normal life.'" more... By Toronto Sun (Canada) The Official Premiere of Fanzmosis's Website international will be February 10, 2003! 02-09-2003 Ozzfest 2003: Ozzy Or Sabbath? Various US websites are alleging that Black Sabbath will headline this year's mammoth Ozzfest tour of the US. The speculation that Sabbath are set to headline the US Ozzfest is at odds with recent rumours that the headline slot was being considered as an Ozzy / Iommi only affair. This would be very much in the vein of a Page and Plant style collaboration, and would allow both artists to draw upon a wider musical spectrum. Latest indications are that a UK Ozzfest is being scheduled for an early September date. Rumours also abound that Iron Maiden and Judas Priest will embark on a massive US tour, which rules out the Brit legends from any US Ozzfest appearances that has also been previously speculated. by metalhammer 02-09-2003 KORN AND DISTURBED HEADED FOR OZZFEST?
